Distinguished Institution Award for Institutions Enrolling less than 10,000 Students -- Robert Morris University
Robert Morris University, a private not-for-profit, associate, baccalaureate and a master’s degree-granting institution serving over 6,500 students, demonstrates an outstanding commitment to identifying, advancing, developing and supporting women. Here are some of the reasons INWHE wishes to recognize RMC as a Distinguished Institution for 2009.
Women in Leadership Positions
- Over 70% of the senior management team at RMC are women
- President’s Council, a group of the five most senior-level administrators outside the President is 100% women
- 5 of the 8 academic deans are women
- 10 of the 11 Vice Presidents are women
- 50.4% of the full time faculty are women
- 70.9 % of the full-time staff are women
- 7 of the 16 member Board of Trustees are women
Professional Development Activities
Robert Morris University has provided tuition reimbursement assistance to over 60 female employees pursuing graduate degrees outside of RMC. Degrees include the following:
- PhD in Education
- PhD in Leadership and Organization Change
- MBA
- MA
- MS in E-Commerce
- Master of Health Administration
- MS in Nursing
- MS in Management Information Systems
- Master of Interdisciplinary Arts
RMC has provided scholarships for over 100 female employees to take undergraduate and graduate coursework at the University through its Tuition Waiver benefit.
The University offers complimentary training and development opportunities to its employees through it Chicago Center for Higher Education Studies.
Institutional Polices on Work-life Balance
- The University offers employees a Wellness Institute that provides complementary care for minor medical concerns as well as one-on-one counseling for employees who wish to pursue wellness goals. Some goals include things such as smoking cessation, weight loss, blood pressure and cholesterol reduction as well as the start of fitness training.
- The University offers convenient fitness centers at five campus locations. The centers are equipped with weight equipment, cardiovascular equipment and locker rooms.
- In October 2008 the University hosted a financial education and wellness campaign. Over 78% of employees who participated were female.
- The University provides its full-time employees with 100% employer-paid individual health, dental and vision coverage.
